Today we celebrate @Instagram's fifth birthday. Just after midnight on October 6th, 2010, in the apartment on the top floor of this building in Cole Valley of San Francisco we pressed the button to launch IG to the world. What ensued for the following weeks was sheer madness. @Mike Krieger and I struggled to keep the service up under load, but no matter how many sleepless nights we endured we could tell that the community was thriving and that it was worth it. Now, 5 years and 400m people later I'm still in awe of what the IG community produces every day. To each and every one of you: happy 5th birthday! ?
