About the Shot: Bora Bora - I had just finished up a photo assignment, shooting the Hawaiki Nui Va'a, outrigger canoe race, which finished in the crystalline waters of beautiful Bora Bora, French Polynesia. While killing some time, waiting for my boat transfer to the airport, I decided to shoot a few scenics. The swaying palm trees, backed up by the water bungalows and puffy clouds, made for a postcard scene that was too good to pass up.

How the Shot was Captured: Because of their ultra wide angle of view, often times #GoPro photos can be most successful when there is a foreground element that's close to the lens. In this case the young palm tree frond would make a good foreground element. I was able to create leading lines using the angle of the frond to draw the viewer's eye into the frame. I held it with my left hand while shooting with my right, leaving a little evidence in the fact that you can see a hint of my fingers through the palm. Shot handheld with a GoPro #HERO4Black, on 0.5 second time-lapse mode. I would have been better off using the Silver edition, so I could utilize the screen for framing the shot. But instead I went at it blind and used my best judgement for camera angle, while making slight camera adjustments to get a handful of varied angles.
