A sneak peek inside @アレキサンダー・マックイーン’s inaugural Paris flagship emporium on Rue Saint-Honoré. Conceived by Sarah Burton and @davidcollinsstudio, the store’s bespoke palette, interior architecture and materiality all serve to reflect the idiosyncratic McQueen aesthetic as well as the building’s location, creating a backdrop that is at once classic and contemporary, familiar and subversive. This is the lower ground floor, dedicated to menswear and women’s evening wear. Black gloss-lacquered timber parquet flooring is offset against two beautiful Military Brocade rugs, created by Alexander McQueen with @therugcompany. Skilfully handwoven by artisans using the finest quality wool and silk yarns and centuries-old weaving techniques, the dramatic black and gold design is taken from the embroidery of a McQueen coat from 2001. The walls feature the custom moulded plaster panelling – incorporating an enticing cornucopia of wings, shells, cactus flowers, mushroom gills, seahorse tails and tangled leaves – while bespoke illustrative wallpaper perfectly defines the space, further subverting it in a typically immersive, McQueen manner. #anothercuriosity
