#HoodByAir’s #SS16 ‘School Uniforms’ would get you expelled: “It was all about my childhood in the Caribbean. We had such high education but we had nothing. Our uniforms were so formal in comparison to our lives. So we would tear it up and make them our own.” @ShayneOlivier of @hoodbyair sent uniforms - deconstructed, sexualised and thus made to tailor fit our individuality - down the runway, lining up the models into school photo formation and then sounding out the “School’s Out” bell at the end of the show. Zippers, sheer panels and pleats ran amok in the show, making concrete HBA’s codes which Olivier has now firmly established within his brand. It’s an education of the brand to a now mainstream editor crowd that floods his shows, but also a comment on the role of stiff codes and rules within the world of education. Going by the bondage straps and bare bottoms, perhaps Oliver doesn’t mind being disciplined.
