The picture above is my house. This mess was one of the most valuable things to happen all year. Bringing Polly home was like bringing home a hurricane. A happy, tail-wagging, treat-eating, playful hurricane that had a huge appetite for walks - and furniture. Rescuing her and her puppies was one of @sgtpeppersfriends first missions as a team. One morning I saw water flooding out of the office - I open the door and there Polly is, super excited, soaking wet, smiling, with the shower turned on and the entire room in shreds. The room was an absolute mess, but Polly was happy, wagging her tail, wanting me to scratch her ear. It was kind of like she was saying "I don't understand why I'm in this house or what furniture is... But I really really like you guys!" A week or so later she escaped when I wasn't home, and the next day we found her back with her pack, happier than ever. Instead of forcing her through the trauma of being captured again (it was very dramatic the first time) we decided to let her stay in her old home, still feeding her and checking in on her every day. As our office was destroyed after hurricane Polly came through we had to throw everything out and in the process, this room became my yoga room. I'm in here now, every single day. I used to practice in the living room but thanks to Polly, I have this private, quiet space that's just for me. A sacred space. It's completely transformed my practice and every day, I'm grateful. Yesterday, Polly crossed the rainbow bridge. I practiced yoga in Polly's room and cried all the way through. I am so grateful for her. She came into our lives and turned everything upside down and helped us get rid of what we didn't need. She made space. And now every day I'm in here, breathing and moving and it's all because of her. I finish my practice and wipe my tears and see a big box by the table. It arrived yesterday but I forgot to open it. I rip off the tape and inside... The box is full of dog treats. Dog treats! It felt so odd, like a reminder from her that there are other dogs out there and they need us, too. Thank you, Polly girl. Every time I step on my mat, I will think of you.
