GoPro Featured Photographer - @night.crawlers About the Shot: End of the Rainbow - We spent some time trying to find a tunnel that was pitch black, and had some cool graffiti on the walls. This spot ended up being around the corner from us in Irvine California. We knew we wanted to get a shot with both the Pixelstick rainbow, and a steel wool spin, and we would need a pitch black setting to accomplish it. How the Shot was Captured: We first take a couple test shots to see what exposure length would compliment the environment best. For this shot, we were also using a 2 stop ND filter, in order to use the 30 second exposure. We set our HERO4 Black cameras on a tripod, at an angle that we would catch both the reflection in the water, as well as the contour of the Pixelstick running along the wall. Using the GoPro App, we aligned ourselves in the frame, and Kyle took the Pixelstick far enough back that he wouldn’t be seen. Billy was standing in position ready to light the steel wool. Once Kyle started the photo, he ran the Pixelstick from the back to the front, passing the camera. Once he passed Billy, Billy lit the steel wool and began spinning. Camera Settings: This photo was captured using 30 second exposure / ISO 100 / GoPro Color / Native Temp / low sharpness / 2 stop ND filter. #ProTip: Night Crawling is all about trial and error. “This could be rad, or this could suck” is something we find ourselves saying a lot when taking photos. Make sure when exploring and finding new spots that you do so safely and legally.
