SENIOR SUNDAY! It's a @susiesseniordogs success! "@themanyadventuresofmaggie is about a 12 year old, blind Shih Tzu who was just adopted last week. Her parents, Audra and Austin, recently lost their former Shih Tzu, Lizzie, just one month ago. Maggie's new parents have a beautiful perspective on adopting an older dog, despite their recent loss. They wrote, "I've actually received more negative/concerned comments from people who I've told I'm adopting a 12 year old dog than I would have thought. People are wondering why we want an older dog, telling me I'm going to have to go through losing another dog again sooner rather than later, etc. But, I saw that picture of Maggie and I couldn't help but imagine if that was Lizzie. If Lizzie was still alive, and for some crazy reason her life long family had to give her up as a 12 year old blind dog, would anyone be willing to take a chance on her? Lizzie was the cutest, most loving, spunky dog, and anyone who would have passed on her because of her age and her blindness would never have known what a wonderful pup they were passing up. I couldn't help but feel that way about Maggie. I tell everyone who is concerned and tells me they could never do what we did, that I would rather have Maggie in my life for however many years she has left, to have her fill our home with love and laughs and tears when she's gone, than to pass on her because of the sadness we will feel when she is gone.
