Japan rule #12: Pay your respects. Today I finished my last training in Japan.Afterwards I visited the grave site of Judo's father, Dr.Jigoro Kano.I cleaned his resting place,rinsed his grave,placed flowers and lit incense.I was humbled by the opportunity to be in the prescence of a man who unknowingly influenced the course of my life and countless others.I intended to ask him for his blessing for the upcoming World Championships,but I realized that is in my hands.Instead, I thanked him for his vision of a martial art that would improve the mind and body and for all the ways his vision has marked my life.And I promised to conduct myself in Judo in a way that would make him proud.
