"Growing up I wanted to be so many things. I wanted to join the army, I wanted to be a neurosurgeon, a fashion designer, a journalist, an aid worker, even a nun. I was lucky enough to have access to education and the opportunity to realise at least one of my dreams. I now want to be a human rights lawyer when I grow up. My dad was Egyptian and my mother is Iraqi. They got married and decided to live in Iraq. He was always very encouraging but he got sick a few years ago and passed away. But my mother is very supportive of my desire to learn and become a lawyer. I want to defend people’s rights. The situation we are in now has made me realise there are a lot of people like us, people who need help. People who are in even worse conditions than us. They need someone to defend their rights. I want to do that. I want to help them.” Rahma, 15, lives in a camp for internally displaced Iraqis in the Kurdistan region of #Iraq. She’s one of over 3 million Iraqis displaced inside their country since January 2014. Thanks to @unrefugees for sharing her story.
