Yes I wrote a New York Times bestselling memoir back in 2013 ? Prior to my fitness and nursing career I had a very interesting past – full of hate and turmoil that eventually led to the loss of my entire family. For those of you that don’t know about my history simply google my name; see the interviews I gave on CNN, 60 minutes, 20/20, Katie Couric or the public speaking events like Chicago Ideas Week.

My life hasn’t always been easy and I actually lost my 3 youngest siblings, mother and father to one of the most hated cults in the world after being indoctrinated into it myself at a young age and then kicked out years later. Since then I have worked really hard to educate the public about the power of brainwashing and religious indoctrination of children. I’ve dedicated my book to the men and women of the armed services, posed for NOH8, started a charity to help other young people who escape the cult and have done many public speaking events at universities or other venues.

Life isn’t always easy and I’ve had my own share of speedbumps along the way. But I feel that we all have a choice and as long as we choose to better ourselves or the lives of those around us, we will always get past those barriers in life and eventually get to a better place in life.
