#Repost from Quest President @tombilyeu. Dear Self, There's a soothing voice in your head preparing you to cope with the sting of defeat. The voice is kind & knows that things are hard. It knows that things can't always go your way. It knows that you've tried your best & you need to hold your head high even in defeat. It whispers to you as exhaustion sets in. It comforts you as the enemy bears down. It's the voice that says retreat now & fight another day. You must kill that voice. Remember only this: As long as there's air in your f*cking lungs, fight for success. Don't spend a second preparing yourself for defeat. Defeat should come at 200 miles an hour with no breaks in sight. If you're going to fail, fail going all out. No hesitation. If you crash & burn with your foot on the break instead of buried in the accelerator, you have sold yourself short. If you give defeat an inch it will take your whole mind. Just because failure is probable doesn't mean you shouldn't fight like hell. I'm not saying you will always succeed. I'm not saying you should feel bad about failing. I'm not even saying you should fear failure. Failure is a powerful instructor. Failure improves those willing to learn. But failure should be fought to the bitter end. Failure should come only when you've burned up your last gasp of will. Failure should come at speed. This #TBT photo is of victory snatched from the clutches of defeat. My sister @kbilyeu1 finished her first half marathon - despite fracturing her leg halfway through the race. Maybe it was stupid. Maybe she should have stopped. But if failure was going to take her, she was NOT going to go quietly. And so she ran. Despite the pain. Running towards the person she wants to become. She scratched and clawed at defeat like a mad woman, putting one foot in front of the other until she crossed the finish line. It is one of the most beautiful & powerful things I've ever witnessed. When I hear the siren call of the voice in my head promising rest in defeat, I remember the smile on her face & her arms in the air. Defeat will never take me easily.
