Roxanne Warneke and her 18-month-old daughter, Billie Grace, at their home in Marana, #Arizona. Roxanne’s husband, Billy, died two years ago today in the Yarnell Hill Fire, one of the nation’s deadliest wildfires. He was among 19 firefighters with the Granite Mountain Hotshots, an elite crew trained to fight wilderness fires, who died two days after the fire ignited. As part of a settlement announced Monday, 12 families who filed a wrongful-death suit will receive $50,000 each. Roxanne plans to help establish a foundation to help other fallen firefighters’ families and push for greater training. “Finally, it’s over,” said Roxanne, who was pregnant with Billie Grace when she lost her husband. “I wanted Billy’s death to mean something, for some good to come out of it, and now I can actually start to see results.” Photo by @nickcotephoto.
