#DorisSalcedo’s “Disremembered” 2014 was created in response to a series of interviews with American mothers who had lost children to gun violence. The title conveys society’s tendency to overlook these deaths and their ongoing reverberations to family members, who are left in isolated states of mourning. For Salcedo, “I wanted to make a piece able to present at once the fragility of a person in grief and the incredible harm we inflict on thousands of families who are experiencing bereavement as part of their daily life.”
