It has been said that anyone can be a father, but it takes a special man to be a dad. My dad is special. He is special beyond compare. And not a day has gone by in my life where I didn’t know that with every fibre of my being. I wasn’t a normal kid, and I know that I was challenging for both of my parents, especially for my dad. Words could never express the gratitude I have for him. For his undying support and encouragement, even when neither one of us could see where my life was going. His faith in me makes me feel like there isn’t anything I can’t do. Parents are people first, and I am proud of who my dad is as a man. And if we pick our parents before we get here, I know I picked the best dad. I am proud to be his daughter. He’s a man of substance and character, perseverance and integrity, as well as being whip-smart and funny. So here’s to my dad… a man who never made me conform to societal standards, who embraced our similarly rebellious natures and always took it in stride, who always encouraged my inquisitive mind, who showed me what it looked like to work hard and fight harder for what I believed in, to have a sense of humor about myself and everything I do, and that hotrods and race cars are truly a thing of beauty - driving them; an exquisite art form and metaphor for life. Most people might not believe in heroes, but most people have never met my dad. I love you papa. You’re my hero.
