For the last 20 years @chris_sharma has been at the forefront of cutting edge rock climbing, putting up some of the hardest climbs around the world and pushing the difficulty limits further than anyone in the world of sport climbing. Growing up in Santa Cruz, Chris learned to climb, like most kids, in trees. In May of 2015 Chris journeyed to Northern California with a vision to climb a giant redwood, in a rock climbers style: using only his hands and feet and protected from falls by a rope & harness. In this quest to return to his climbing roots and to advance the understanding of California’s threatened giant Redwoods, @chris_sharma took on an unprecedented free climb in a project called #GiantAscent produced by @redbull. Working with tree biologists that helped rig the tree safely, Chris helped collect valuable data from a soaring Redwood to measure tree water status as an indicator of how it is affected by the current drought. I'm honored to have been asked to be the director of this film project (thank you @redbull yet again!) as well as the photographer, learning about the trees and watching Chris do this unbelievably difficult climb! From the production side, huge thank you to the crew @joshpovec @mindframecinema @dangpix and #mattMaddaloni and team from sea to sky cable cam for all your tireless work and skills, truly impossible without you all!
