55 years ago today "The Apartment" (1960) made its world premiere. The film would go on to be nominated for 10 Oscars. It won 5 including three for writer-director Billy Wilder: Best Picture, Director, and Original Screenplay (which Wilder shared with co-writer I. A. L. Diamond). Wilder (left) is shown here smoking with Jack Lemmon on the set during production of the film. The pair worked together in 1959 on "Some Like It Hot".
