Happy birthday to Swiss artist Peter Fischli! A retrospective of his work with long-term collaborator David Weiss will open at the Guggenheim in February 2016, offering the most thorough investigation of their joint production to date. #FischliWeiss have been collaborating since 1979 on a body of work that humorously celebrates the sheer banality of everyday existence. Their delight in the ordinary is given perfect form in their flower portraits—colorful, close-up shots of garden plants in bloom or various stages of decay. The retrospective will demonstrate the intricate interrelationships among Fischli and Weiss’s works in sculpture, photography, installation, and video, each used to confront, examine, and lampoon the seriousness of high art. ?
