They see hundreds of animals come in a day – they have close to 500 dogs in there now. Because they’re at such critical capacity, they’re doubling up and tripling up kennels. We’re pulling dogs out of DAS because the shelter is full, and we need to get them into a quarantine situation. In a shelter this large, we’re running into a lot of different contaminants; diseases spread pretty quickly. So we’re seeking comfortable short-term foster homes that can gather data points about our dogs because we want them to go to New York with as much information as possible. We also want them to decompress. The solution to our overpopulation problem is not going to be local adoption – we’ve got to get them out of the state. We’re bringing in more dogs than we can adopt out in Texas.”

Hearts & Bones Rescue is a small non-profit founded in 2017 that has rescued more than 5,000 dogs from overpopulated shelters in the Dallas, TX area.
