Japanese call it suna-mushi or sand bathing, a tradition that’s gone on here in the town of Ibusuki on Kagoshima Bay for more than 300 years. Bathers with assistance from attendants bury their bodies with the naturally warm (50-55°C) healing sands heated from nearby volcanoes, then steam as long as they can stand it. I lasted for 20 minutes. It is said to be good for whatever ails you. #Ibusuki #Kagoshima #Japan #onsen #sandbath #hotspring
