I always thought 3rd albums were super important because, historically, it’s where artists typically taper off and kind of fade away, OR magically find a second wind and grow- I am eternally grateful that for us it was growth. Being an artist is an incredible but completely insane and bizarre existence… People fall in love with YOUR story and your specific way that you tell it (and how well they can relate to it)… but that story is only as good as the actual experiences and events that you as the artist have lived. I remember when we made this for whatever reason there was a lot on my mind, and I genuinely had a lot to say…which isn’t always the case. I was also ready to reinvent our sound, or more specifically, actually create THE sound that people could identify as OneRepublic- I am a die hard shapeshifter so landing on one sound or genre for an entire album has never been my strong suit. With Native, we at least came close. Our first album put us on some planes, but this is the album that took us around the world and back again multiple times. It was never ending. “Feel Again”, “Lose Myself”, “Counting Stars”, “Love Runs Out”, “I Lived”…. We got the order of those singles WRONG (as is typical) but, thankfully the world decided what it wanted to hear and the rest is, as they say, history. I will be eternally grateful for this album,, everyone who has ever listened to it, and whatever impact it is made on people’s lives… That is why I got into music in the first place… Make people I’ve never met FEEL something universal and, as an added bonus, get to see the world and perform those songs for those people. Thank you to all the fans we have ever had and continue to have, thank you to my band who feels more like brothers than anything, and, thank u to the universe…with all its wonders & oddities and beauty- 16 years w/ this job and somehow I still have some things left to say. 🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️」3月24日 8時21分
