Ruben will discuss his journey to becoming a National Geographic contributing photographer and explorer. The centerpiece of his presentation will be the project he developed with support from a @sony Alpha Grant. 'A Song of Hope' addresses the challenges of Mexico City's Mariachi musician community during the COVID-19 Pandemic. In addition to photo-reportage, he developed a platform using 360 VR where the public could order serenades for their loved ones around the world. The campaign not only brought joy to the song recipients but lent dignity and much-needed financial assistance to the musicians in such a challenging moment.
