For 20 years, Camille Pissarro lived in Éragny, a tiny village situated northwest of Paris on the banks of the river Epte. There, he created a considerable number of works, from daily scenes to the countryside observed from his window.

This work, inspired by Japanese-style fan decorations, depicts a panoramic view of figures and a rolling landscape of haystacks.
