I need some help with something that has been troubling me. ? Here's the scoop. I found an American Animal Hospital Association veterinary hospital that has some really helpful educational information on their website that teaches cat owners how to train their cats and info about cat scratching behavior. But they don't have any info about the facts about declawing and how it is bad for the health and well being of a cat, not to mention inhumane or very painful. ?? They do mention declawing with these words at the end of their pdf called, "Destructiveness in Cats." "Declawing to Prevent Scratching. The surgical procedure known as declawing involves removal of the last joint of each toe, along with the claw. This surgery is performed under general anesthesia. Declawing should be considered if you have been unsuccessful at retraining your destructive scratching cat. The temporary discomfort caused by declawing is certainly more human than euthanizing an otherwise healthy pet. Young kittens and mature cats recover quickly from declawing." Hmmmmm. This was very troubling to me because NUMBER ONE, it should say that a behaviorist should be considered if the cat owner is still having issue with their cat INSTEAD of declawing. It should say that declawing is very painful and inhumane. It shouldn't say that kittens and mature cats recover quickly for goodness sake!!!!! :( What's your opinion on this? And ps, I did reach out to the influential AAHA employee who works at this specific veterinary hospital (who also was on the board of directors at AAHA) to ask them why they don't have any info on the facts about declawing and how it is inhumane, painful, and bad for a kitten or cat, but as usual, I never heard back from them.? Thousands of cats are suffering from this cruel and barbaric procedure that is done to cats and kittens at the majority of AAHA hospitals. Many of their vets are deceiving cat owners to believe that this inhumane procedure is no big deal for their cats. AAHA has 900 standards of care for everything else but not ONE for declawing. ? #greed over the #welfare of #cats #pawsneedclaws #aaha
